How Citrix has simplified computing

Remember the days when installing computer software required some overweight family friend labeled as the ‘tech guy’ to come over and seem to take control of your computer?  Think of hundreds of those same people doing the same thing in a corporate environment.  Now, fast forward 20 plus years to today where even your grandmother knows what email is and can even tell you a thing or two about the iPhone.  Well, simplicity has also found its way into the corporate world.

I had the pleasure of attending the Citrix Summit and Synergy events in San Francisco this past week and one word can describe the event, simple.  Not in the sense of grander (oh no, they definitely know how to throw an impressive event), but more so in the actual products that they offer.  The ease of use and configuration for such products as XenDesktop and XenApp Server is simply mind blowing.  Here is a company that puts such powerful tools into geek hands and makes them so easy to use that even your intern can do it.

Cloud computing? Yep, they have that covered!  With a mixture of XenApp, XenDesktop, XenServer, and now XenClient, you will feel.. well, in a state of Xen.  Imagine running your own personal operating system on your laptop (with all your music and video’s... you know, your PERSONAL OS) and then pressing a couple buttons and BAM, you’re now on your corporate machine.  Neither talks to one another so you can keep them separate.  Lose your laptop?  No problem, it has a built in security feature that doesn’t allow the person who found (stole) it to access anything… isn’t technology grand?  That is the beauty of XenClient that was just announced.  … And the scary part?  Even your grandma can install and use it.

Want to try Windows 7 on your brand new iPad (or iphone and even android device)?  Download the Citrix Receiver and start amazing your friends.  No seriously, it has touch support!  It’s these types of tools that simplify the way we do business and allows us to just enjoy the technology in front of us.  For more information I encourage you to look at some of the fascinating video’s on www.citrix.com and start seeing why that overweight family friend might be getting worried.
